The 70's and 80's were a different time. I don't think any country had a huge international scene, we certainly didn't because we were too far away. Bands like AC/DC managed a few tours but they spent the best part of a decade away from home to become an over night success in other countries. Into the early 80's we had other bands try the AC/DC formula and not succeed. But all that lead to a stronger local scene.
We didn't have many bands tour here either, but it did happen. Black Sabbath toured here in the early 70's and were in total awe of a guy named Billy Thorpe who headlined the festival they played at. In the mid 80's we had a few thrash bands tour but nothing huge and it wasn't until Metallica broke the world with Justice that international bands really made a dent.
We had a few radio shows through the 80's but when anything imported took 6-8 weeks to arrive, and that's if you could get an order sheet for the labels that were selling, many people just didn't bother. There was also several metal shops in the country that handled imports, one of which is still open today, and they sold magazines and records from overseas but everything was 6-8 weeks behind at least. It got better by the late 80's as more tours and more labels signed deals with labels that had a local presence.

Awesome, yeah they opened with Morricone's TEOG in 85 before kicking in with Fight Fire with Fire come to think it, was loud as fuckin hell, not like Motorhead at the Danforth Theatre though, that was fuckin insane, plaster fell from the ceiling and they closed it for reno for a few weeks after, my guitar teacher said his ears were ringing for more than a day and it worked out well because he didn't have to hear his mother ranting, we used to practice in his basement 😅🤣

I remember buying Gates of Purgatory on import from Record Peddler, Brian the owner who is a local metal legend here used to preorder vinyl for us and most metal could only be found on import here early 80's late 70's. He is in Eve of Darkness the book on the early metal scene in Toronto, in fact a lot of my friends contributed material to make the book and were in a lot of the bands the deluxe has collectibles, its a good read on the early metal scene. My son plays bass and wants to do Prisoners of our Time with me, it was the first song I learned from the album 🤘

Hey look, a Mayhem/Burzum thread about actual music, rather than morbid drama and unsubstantiated rumors!
I'll take Burzum. I actually listen to the first few albums pretty regularly when I'm painting. I'm still a member of the No Attilas Club. I thought Maniac was great, but haven't put any Mayhem on in ages.

Probably would have needed to change my skivvies had I heard Fight Fire with Fire or seen Geddy in person up close. Alas, we got neither tonight. But the setlist was decent. And I did get Battery. Had to wreck some shit for a few minutes.

Metallica played most of them at the Concert Hall TO ( Masonic Temple ) in 85, my friend still has his ticket stub, Geddy Lee was at the gig to everyones surprise. Seen Slayer, Venom, Exciter, Razor and others at the same venue between 85-85, think they opened with Fight Fire with Fire encores were Creeping Death, Am I Evil and Motorbreath, good times wish I had a fuckin time machine 🤘

Kingdom of Sorrow - "Behind the Blackest Tears"
This second album has more of a Crowbar feel to it, as opposed to the Hatebreed feel the first album had.  Which makes sense, considering the band was the partnership between Kirk Windstein and Jamey Jasta.  Not a huge fan of the first album, but this one hits the mark very well!

I think I remember Ice T once saying they try to do a cover per album to pay respects their heroes, (or something like that). They did a cover of Hey Joe, but it wasn't as good as their cover of Suicidal Tendencies.

I recently seen a video where they performed Raining Blood that was a decent cover 

Have to agree with you, always hear about them being referenced as trailblazers, I don't get the hype honestly 🤷‍♂️
