RexKeltoi gave a Damn to GoatmasterGeneral in Who are your current top 5 bands?
I have the opposite problem. Tell me you want my 5 top bands and I'll give you 15 or maybe 25. I don't see how any true music lover could narrow their favorite bands down to just 5, or even 10. I'd be hard pressed to limit myself to just my top 5 sub-genres. But that's just me, I've no problem with you apparntly having only 3 top metal bands Ari.

Technically it is as they share the same chord and compositional structures for the most part, chords being 5ths a lot of the time with chugging on the E string as a pedal point or triads 1st (root), 3rd (major 3rd), and 5th (perfect 5th). Rock will tend to have a lot more open chords especially if not hard rock. For the most part the tuning will be much lower a lot of time especially in genres I usually play, whereas rock is almost always played in E or Eb.The vocals in metal have more variations as does the drumming. That is my take on it from a musicians point of view, a layman might have a much different view 🤷♂️

RexKeltoi gave a Damn to SurgicalBrute in When did the second wave of black metal begin?
Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
Immortal - Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism
Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Burzum - S/T
I'm not saying these are the best albums by these bands (some are, some aren't), but these are the albums where 2nd wave black metal essentially started
Bad reference point. Emperor were doing something a bit different from the others with their symphonic style of black metal. The two bands that really laid down the blueprint for the stereotypical Norsecore sound were probably Darkthrone and Mayhem.
In other words, if it reminds you of Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas or Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky it's probably 2nd wave.
...and don't worry. Whitenoise will be along any minute now to provide you with a list of 300 albums you should listen to 😁

Anyone else going this year and have any info? What can I expect to pay for food and drink in the festival area for example. VIP area worth it?

RexKeltoi gave a Damn to KillYourDarlings in Just your garden variety mid-30's midwestern millennial metalhead and married mother of two, checking in!
Greetings all, I just discovered this forum while doing some reading for an article I'm pitching to... whoever might want it, I guess... about metal culture, the inclusivity of the community, all the things that have made me love this music and the scene ever since I was a sad little 12 year old victim of the meanest, most merciless middle school girls that suburban Wisconsin had to offer in the early 2000's. I don't usually use so much alliteration, I've just been awake for a really long time because we're closing on our house in a few days and I'm taking a break from the chaos that is packing and cleaning at the same time with toddlers running around.
All that aside, my parents were quite older compared to those of my peers, and I grew up listening to what they listened to which was of course Golden Oldies, all of the 50's and 60's, all day every day. I still love it, but it didn't do much to help me figure out "myself" when I was trying to "fit in" at a new school. I tried listening to what everyone else listened to on the radio or where have you, and I liked some of it but just didn't connect... until I heard some "heavier" stuff, that is, early Breaking Benjamin and Chevelle. I decided to change the "Music Choice" channel on my shitty bedroom TV to the metal station to find more "heavy" music, and turned my head when I heard Stabbing the Drama by Soilwork.
Changed my whole entire life. I bought all six of their albums that had been released by that time (2005), and listened to every CD every day for weeks. It just worked for me, I guess. They were also my first concert, which I went to alone, just to discover a community of people sharing a mutual love of something with me who at the same time gave absolutely zero fucks about the nerdy little skinny teen girl with bad acne and a windbreaker. Everyone was so cool and warm, one guy helped me get up to the front of the stage so I was only feet away from the band as they performed. Man, what a core moment for me. Ever since, metal has been a fundamental part of my self concept and a crucial element to my day-to-day life.
I grew away from listening to Soilwork, after their next couple albums didn't really go a direction that I enjoyed as much. That said, I'll always consider myself an early megafan, and credit them with my lifelong love of the music.
These days I've been listening a lot to After the Burial, Fit For an Autopsy, Whitechapel, Meshuggah, other deathcore (I know) and progressive metal outfits. Next week we're moving back to the big city where we'd lived prior, so I'm looking forward to catching a lot more shows in Oklahoma City!
That's all! Thanks for reading my sleep deprived rambling intro
Oh! I'm also a writer, if anyone is interested in that. I know I said I was doing a freelance article but most of my "successful" work has been screenwriting horror shorts. I have seen close to 3000 movies in my lifetime (that I've logged, at least), and my goal is to direct one of my shorts within the next couple years!

I doubt it would damage the nut, I'd be more worried about putting a kink in the string.

DHG - Black Medium Current
The Antichrist Imperium - Vol 2
Cult of Fire - मृत्यु का तापसी अनुध्यान (who are playing MDF next year and if you've never seen them - definitely something worthwhile)
Circle of Ouroborus - Tree of Knowledge

RexKeltoi gave a Damn to Natassja in Horror Films
'The Company of Wolves' is a favourite of mine, the part featuring Terence Stamp has a cool atmosphere. I like a lot of Hammer stuff too and yeh 'Salem's Lot' the bit with Geoffrey Lewis in particular. Clive Barker also.

RexKeltoi gave a Damn to AlSymerz in Horror Films
Of course I can say it. I can even mean it.
Books are better than movies.
See I said it again, and meant it.
Of course you are free to disagree, but it doesn't make me wrong, or stop me saying it.

RexKeltoi gave a Damn to AlSymerz in Horror Films
The Shining mini series was better than that stupid Kubrick version. But the extra time gave them a chance to actually tell the story.
But it's the latest, more recent, remakes that are an issue. Whether it's shit like The Fall Guy, or Roadhouse, or whether it's horror like IT, Carrie, Firestarter etc. The remakes are too often done with little to no consideration for the original. Even Hellraiser which stuck reasonably well to what Barker wrote couldn't replace the original with it's pre-CGI make up and real camera work.
