Contemplating leaving all my forums and deleting my facebook account. It's been pointed out my priorities are in the wrong place and something must be done to change things. So don't be surprised if this is my last ever post.

You're starting to sound like Midi... :D

Seriously though, that sucks. I wonder what would make you think that; metal's a big part of your life, you're a big part of the community here, and you obviously enjoy posting. I hope you don't go.

Everyone needs a break from time to time, it's not unusual. Just get off the grid for a bit and you'll feel better. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Whilst I'd agree with BAN, based on what RO posted, I would like to think that if he does "go dark" it is because he genuinely wants to and not because someone told him to.

Agreed. If you feel that's best, then go for it, but if it's just at the behest of someone else, I can't imagine that it's actually in your best interest. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

I'm sorry to say that I just found out our drummer is moving out of town. I'm looking for a replacement, but it'll be difficult. I have managed to find a great player to replace our other guitarist, and I hope I can hang onto him and the bass player long enough to get a functioning band back together. Right now, saying I'm depressed would be an understatement.

Sorry to hear that FatherAlabaster best of luck finding a replacement drummer.

It/s a case of me spending too much time on facebook and forums, not enough time on more important things, FA is right though I enjoy this place too much to depart permanantly. I am, however, going dark for a while to sort shit out. So until next time this is RelentlessOblivion saying you stay classy MetalForum.

Yeah, you could say that I'm familiar with that feeling, haha. Nevertanezra is still down a bass player, but is also currently down Mike, so I don't know what our status is. We haven't had a full lineup since Denver doomfest, which was now 3 years ago. That's the time to work on other projects, which is exactly how I'm passing the time. Hope it works out for you, but if the lineup doesn't, at least you know you can always soldier on yourself. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Well... Drummers come and go, that is the way that they are. I bet you will find a good drummer who will be psyched to play the Black Harvest material. I liked that cat who was playing guitar with you at the show in Mass., but it was clear you two did not meld well personally. He was pretty rock and roll and all, but his approach to alcohol was clearly not in line with your own. For that reason alone I'm not surprised you've drifted apart. Anyway, sorry your out of sorts with it. Good luck.

My own band is kind of not getting it together, but I've coming along a lot as a player, so I'm just glad about that.

Indeed, keeping any kind of band together takes work from everyone. No small task. Thanks for the kind words. I'll see what I can scrape together, because I would really like to play some shows around NYC again.

Going solo is always an option, and I'm going to record the latest BH material by myself in any case, just to have it done. The songs will see the light of day regardless. And I do have a couple of other things in the works.

With him and Dave gone, it will be your duty to fulfill the role of the crass youngster. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Doesn't it seem that Black Milk would be best suited for that particular function?

Best wishes RO - hope you are back soon!

Health kick starts today so as I type this I have just consumed a banana and some mango chunks and am now enjoying (?) a mango and passion fruit smoothie to finish my breakfast.  Not a massive diet or anything just an effort to clean my act up a little (still have beers in the fridge) and I have been massively inspired by my girlfriends weight loss and continued commitment and dedication to carry on with it.

Take up cycling Macabre it's great. Low impact on joints while requiring a higher and more sustained energy output then jogging.

Also I literally spent my entire day cleaning. I'm exhausted and I got aches in muscles I didn't know I had. Upside is I now have time for foruming.

My computer died. I spilt soda on it. That's why I haven't been around much. Plus a bunch of the novel I've been writing was on that computer. How difficult would it be to put my old hard drive in a new computer? Anyway, I miss the forum, will try to post more often.

Ooh, computer problems can be a real bummer. If it's a desktop, you could probably install your hard drive as a secondary drive in a different computer and at least pull the data off. If it's a laptop, probably best to find someone who does data recovery, as the software on your hard drive will be very confused if it wakes up in a different body. I have a friend who does that stuff professionally.

Stop advertising my services on the open board you douche bag!  I told you, inviting people round for drinks and introducing them to the concept of cerebral displacement is a pricey gig.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
