Hey guys, sorry if it seems like I'm stalking the forum and posting/replying too much or to often. This is day six of my confinement and as I recently deactivated my Facebook account I find this place an entertaining site to socialize on. Let me know if it gets annoying. Sorry.

Fuck facebook, post away.

I've been happy off FB, but I'm going to have to get back on there soon. Blah. We're settling in for the snowstorm now - my son's preschool is closed, and my wife just found out she gets the day off work as well. Unexpected family day. Fun times. :) I've been obsessing over an acoustic guitar piece the last few days; it's only a minute and a half long but it's very difficult for me to play clean all the way through. Hopefully I'll get a solid recording of it today and return to the world of the living.

I had to leave Facebook because it was causing me to have extreme hate for humans (even more than usual). I love a good debate, but I find that 95% of humans hate having their ideas/opinions challenged in any way, hate logic, and simply won't/can't debate. All they do is offer insults and threats of violence. I find this pathetic. Once my refusal to insult an opponent caused me to be accused of having a, "dry style of debate." What a loser.

While I'm talking about things that piss me off, here's some things that irrationally irritate me to no end:

When people write, "could of" when they should write "could've." I've seen this in scholarly published books; come on now, WTF!

When people say or write, "try and" when they should say or write, "try to." This just turns a sentence into nonsense.

When people confuse the words, "then" and, "than." Their two words with different meanings.

When people say or write, "same difference," when they mean "same thing," or, "no difference." At best this could be a comparison of differences (a phrase of dubious worth, as it would seldom need to be used), at worst, and most often, it is simply, again, nonsense.

If any of you make these errors, let it be known that I am aware that this is just an informal forum where this sort of thing isn't a big deal, and I know that these things shouldn't irritate me as much as they do. Just the ravings of a mad man . . .

That sucks! You trust this mechanic? We took our car to the dealer for some maintenance when we first got here, and they tried to sell us on a whole bunch of work we didn't need.

Had this too, a dealer tried to tell me my brakes weren't safe when vehicle had just passed it's MOT.  I got our Trading Standards involved but they talked their way out of it.

Yes, I can trust the mechanic. I had to go from one parking lot to another directly across the street. There was much traffic, so when I got my chance I took it pretty fast. I was unfamiliar with the area and it turned out that there was a short but very steep incline where the parking lot meets the road. The front of the car hit the pavement VERY hard. I'm lucky that there was not a lot more damage. I'm also lucky that my parents are footing the bill.

I took this news really hard but, probably because of this new med I'm on, I've actually calmed down and stopped freaking out about it. Which is surprising even to me. Thanks for your concern though. At least I'm not spending money on anything but smokes, which only cost me $2.75 every other day.

These are all pretty painful. You hit the nail on the head despite the slip-up of your own.

"Try and" and "same difference" don't bother me, they're just colloquialisms. Still perfectly intelligible in context. Then/than, your/you're, and they're/their/there mistakes are a lot worse IMO.

I've encountered several non-native speakers who use "he" and "she" interchangeably, which is both funny and confusing.

I saw an an ad on Craig's List that looked really cool. I emailed her and we had a lot of common interests and seemed to be hitting it off real well. Then I mentioned my psych disability because I like to get that out of the way early because it's going to come up eventually and can be a deal breaker. She wrote back: good luck on your search.

I feel like I'm becoming a misogynist. I don't want to, but it feels like women are just rejection machines put on earth to make me feel like shit.

You just gotta wait for them to bring out their "negatives" first, when it happens it means that she is genuinely interested, and secondly that she is less likely judge you right away.. nobody is perfect, and everybody has some sort of skeletons. It´s one of those things you  shouldn´t hurry with either i think. It´s not really who you are after all? It´s something you struggle with, but i hope you don´t let it define you as a person.

Best wishes.

Dr.Phil. :D

Thank you. I guess I shouldn't bring it up so soon, but it's always in the back of my mind; she won't like me because of my disability. I was was very upset when this happened, but again this new med (trintellix) really seems to be working. Just a few weeks ago this sort of thing would probably have had me crying and upset for at least hours, if not days. I'm in a really good mood now. This is the first time in my life that an anti-depressant has actually, noticeably, worked for me. I actually feel positive about the future. That's a weird feeling for me.

Glad to hear it Parker, looks like things are on the up for you. Forget about that Craigslist lass, if she is going to dismiss you for that, then she is not even worth your time. Ye'll find someone if it's what you really want, plenty of fish and all that, I pormise.

I'm glad you found a medication that helps. And maybe it is best to get those kinds of talks out of the way, but there's something to be said for seeing how things develop first.

Speaking of medications, it would appear that I've developed a delayed skin reaction to the antibiotics I got for that sinus infection. Nothing terrible so far, but annoying. Probably beats suffering through the initial thing. Whoopdy doo.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
