You know' date=' sometimes people just need space, or time or whatever. The only thing to do is play it cool, and let them have it. You can't force them to want to get in touch with you. I know it can be frustrating, but she'll get back in touch when she wants to, and if she doesn't, then you haven't really lost that much.[/quote'] Thanks buddy thanks for telling that

Well' date=' we rent them from the library and I don't think they have the later season of Burn Notice. I think they've got almost all of 24 so that's nice. My parents also like watching The Borgias and period dramas, both of which bore my brother to death.[/quote'] I like Burn Notice and Netflix has all the seasons, I'm def going to finish watching it, some day. I watched 3 seasons of 24 and kind of lost interest. That's a long series and maybe I'll finish it too before I die lol I always forget that the library has dvd's, I'll try and remember to check that out next time I'm there.

They just kind of pushed the boundaries of plausibility further and further each season. The first one is still the best that I've seen.

Well, it does get annoying after the 50,000th terrorist attack on Los Angeles. At least Deja Vu and Sum Of All Fears had stuff happen in New Orleans and Denver, respectively. Hell, even Transformers 3 had Chicago being attacked. I guess it's an easy way out since these are iconic places, but there are other populous cities in America, like Philadelphia, Houston and Indianapolis. Apparently Phoenix is the sixth most populous city in the US, but Lord knows nobody's going to make a movie where anything there gets blewed up.

Saw Raven with my wife last night, and had a ton of fun just like when we caught them the last time. I drank my face off, the touring opener Night Demon was also good, and NTNR even made a rare appearance at a gig. The only downside was that the place was dead, less than 50 people showed up to see a legendary NWOBHM band. I know we're in Utah, but WTF? Metallica used to open for Raven back in the early 80's, and now nobody gives a shit? I really hate how frequently that happens at shows here.

This here is my 500th post. This milestone seems like a good point to express that I love this forum' date=' I love metal, and love this community. It is cool to connect with you all this way, so thanks. In case you were wondering, I plan to badly abuse the privileges of my new status.[/quote'] Gorbo, I don't care what the rest of them say - you're alright by me. :D

Fuck' date=' I was a Knight before was I not? Or was I a crusader, that comes later doesn't it? Shit, is there a list somewhere of statuses, so fucking anti-climatic. Oh well...[/quote'] Nah dude, you were only a Warrior, right? There's a thread somewhere on this topic; I believe that Iceni is responsible for the titles in our current hierarchy.

Grandmaster. Is cool
We're going to have to come up with a new one for Relentless. I'm not sure that this forum can handle more than one Living Embodiment Of Metal, and some of us are fast approaching him. That "black hole" that sucked many of our previous members out of existence may form again, and there are some of you I'd really miss.

Honestly, that seems like a decent turnout for Raven. Salt Lake peoples seem to care more about gimmick bands or reunion tours.

A few busy days are coming up: after work tomorrow, I have an appointment at the dentist and the same evening I’m going to see the orchestra in which a friend of mine, a clarinetist, plays. They will be bringing music around the theme of war. Saturday, my cello teacher’s string quartet, the Spiegel String Quartet will be performing in the church of Waarschoot. I’m extremely psyched to see them again. Bartok, Stravinsky, Barber, Sul and Schulhoff will be among the composers of whom they are going to play compositions, so I won’t be disappointed. I have one day of rest the day after and the day after that I’m off to see an old friend perform a play.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
