Well in our defense we've never had a separate section of the forum set aside just for dedicated sub-genre threads. That's completely foreign to us. 99% of our posts were made in one of two sections: Let's Talk Metal and/or Everything Else. We got used to throwing caution to the wind and mixing things up by talking about different sub-genres in the same thread and even within the same post. By contrast this place has seemingly dozens of section headers with dozens of topics each. It's hard to navigate because it's not intuitive. I'm beginning to learn my way around now but I still can't seem to wrap my head around the idea that they keep their What Are You Listening to Now thread filed under Forum Games (?) and their new 2021 release thread filed under Upcoming. We're also not used to having pedantic topic police moving our shit around and forcing us to conform to rules 'n shit. I think our sole beleaguered mod Jay might have flexed his mod powers and moved or locked maybe two threads in the entire 5 years I was there. We were given the leeway to be lawless, unruly and wanton going off topic and threadcrapping at will. Of course it goes without saying that as the newly arrived guests it behooves us to try and get on board with how they do things around here. We must be contrite and seek atonement for our sins.

I got the black vinyl delivered to my door today (together with Wayfarers "A romance with violence") so I just had to take a break from work and put on "Frigid and Spellbound". Well, one thing led to another and I've now listened through the whole album. Man this is so fucking good it's ridiculous. Harsh, blasting, but still tons of melodies and groove. I don't know how they pull it off!

I have always been quite fascinated with the mental images that come flooding into my mind when playing certain albums and certain bands. Most older familiar music takes me back to very specific places in my head. School corridors, former workplaces, friends' houses and many of the houses and apartments I lived in when that music was new as well as being in the car cruising the streets around them.
Bands like the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel and Dylan take me right back to mom & dad's living room sitting in a kitchen chair pulled up next to the high-fi and record cabinet reading lyrics and scrutinizing the album covers circa the late 60's. That was the first rock music I was exposed to as a young child.
Rambling Man by the Allman Bros puts me in the kitchen having breakfast with my family before school with the radio on as my dad got ready to leave for the train station.
Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd's WYWH and Physical Graffiti put me right back in the middle school corridors and the lunchroom when I was 13/14.
Molly Hatchet, Skynyrd, ZZTop's Deguello, Heart's Bebe Le Strange, Umma Gumma, first two Van Halen albums, Taken by Force, Back in Black all put me right back in my university dorm room '79/'80
Albums like Practice What You Preach, Sonic Temple, Taking Over, And Justice for All, Circus of Power debut, and for some reason the song Sultans of Swing these take me back to my first apartment I lived in briefly in '88 - '89 when I got married the first time.
Bands like Celtic Frost, Slayer, Sepultura, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Exciter, Candlemass, Social Distortion, Mercyful Fate, Sisters of Mercy, Piledriver, White Zombie, and the albums Master of Puppies, the Black album, Horrorscope and I Hear Black put me back in the house we rented from '90 to '93 when my daughter was born.
Paradise Lost albums Shades of God and Icon put me right back in my '83 Pontiac Grand Prix in those months after my wife had left when I'd cruise the streets aimlessly at night for hours after work with those two albums on either side of a 90 minute Maxwell tape on loop, blasting them as loud as I could stand it over and over. My therapy I guess.

Alright that's enough, TMI, I'll stop now but thanks for indulging me.

Black Metal ..the feeling..you either get it or you don't...nothing better.

90's Greek black metal had a pretty distinctive sound. I never got so much into RC or SF or even Varathron, my favorite from the 90's Hellenic scene was always Necromantia.

But in recent years there seems to have been a resurgence in Greek black metal. The bands don't all sound exactly the same but in most cases you can still hear some kind of a link back to the classic 90's Hellenic stuff.

Sheol, check out: Katavasia, Kawir, Kvele, Dodsferd, Sørgelig, Serpent Noir, Sad, Acherontas, Akantha, Ravencult, Burial Hordes, Embrace of Thorns, Empire of the Moon...that oughtta get you  started.

Hey Navy, glad to see you made the trip! Wasn't expecting this big of a turnout to be honest. Although we're still missing Mark, Surge, Jon-0, Zach, Cornhole, Hungarino and Marko.  Who am I forgetting? Don't say Deadovic, I left him out on purpose. Not that I haven't enjoyed arguing with that stubborn Taswegian for the last 5 years, but I'm thinking they might not appreciate reading that shyte over here. If he comes he comes, but I'm not going to encourage him. I've already dropped my second post on the totally wrong and completely inappropriate thread, so now I reckon I'll have to try my best not to make any more of a bad first impression on the mods than I already have.
